Large Boat Sailing

Two years ago, I took the small boat sailing class. In the first several weeks of this fall semester, I took the large boat sailing course. Besides the size of the boat and the sail are larger than the small boat, the large boat also needs the motor to maneuver when getting out of the deck.  The first impression when I get on the large boat is that it's more stable than the small one. While controlling the rudder is relatively not as sensitive as the smaller one.  In the later several courses, we learned not too much about the handling, but instead the rules on the water, such as the right of the way. And also a few basic knots used by sailor which I found very useful.

So, in general it's a good compensate to my previous class and I'm looking forward to practice more in the future.

Simplified Right-of-Way Rules

 1. When booms are on different sides, port tack keeps clear.
 2. When booms are on the same side, windward boat keeps clear.
 3. Overtaking boat keeps clear.
